A true measure of a nation’s commitment to the well-being of its people is the speed with which its leaders respond to potential and existing health crises. The Covid-19 vaccination programme in India which was the largest adult vaccination drive in the world, proved that our government was ready, prepared and wholly committed to reduce the pandemic’s impact on public health and the economy. The rapid response that brought Covid-19 under control in India was a proud and commendable moment in our history. Now we need to put up a fight against a number of other infectious diseases that still pose a threat, particularly for older adults, and the risk of which can be eliminated with just one concerted effort: prioritising adult immunisation.
